A note to managed care patients and their doctors: Some HMOs (such as HMO Blue, Tufts and Harvard Pilgrim) use a "laboratory cap." Since dermatopathology services are outside of the laboratory cap, your doctor has the freedom to use the laboratory of his or her choice, without penalty to you, your doctor, your primary care physician (PCP) or the IPA (the group of doctors contracted with your insurance company).
